Campus Blessing Constitution–Rejected by C.S.U., Fresno
We met. We worked. We poured over the example constitutions for campus organizations. And we made our best effort to comply. We received our first and second drafts back with a request for corrections. We made them and resubmitted.
Then, after all that work, our club’s constitution was rejected.
Discrimination in the Classroom
If you go through the list of required courses for any undergraduate degree, you will find certain courses required of all students of all majors. One of those is English Composition.
If you were allowed to take inventory of the religious, philosophical, or political beliefs of the professors in the English Department, you would not find it very diverse in terms of religion, philosophy, and political thought. You may find students required to purchase somewhat pornographic books like “Naked Poetry”–materials that may offend their religious values. What would be said if students were forced to buy materials that vehemently opposed homosexuals with vile and degrading language? Yet, when it comes to offending Christians with vulgarity and God hating writing, that’s considered fair game.
If you were allowed to take inventory of how many students of various religious beliefs felt abused, bullied, cheated out of their grades, discriminated against, belittled, insulted, and offended by their professors and by fellow students, what would the result be?
So as it is, the universities can take tax money from citizens of all beliefs and values and use it to shove a mindset down students’ throats, but students of a particular Christian faith cannot meet together on campus to enjoy fellowship and freedom of religion worshiping according to their own beliefs.
So much for diversity and sincerity and religious freedom. Has our university lost it’s integrity and it’s respect for the freedom of people of certain faiths? If so, then it should lose our support and our funding.
To be sincere and consistent, would CSU, Fresno apply the same rules to all the other organizations? Would they disband an Islamic organization because it’s leaders were required to be Muslims?
Or is it only certain religions that are denied this equal status?
